Make Bigotry, Hatred, and Violence History …

Dear Friend,

2016 was certainly a vibrant year with equal parts hope or despair depending upon your perspective. Without historical perspective, however, every year can divisively seem like it’s the worst time ever or the best time ever.  When we here at your Holocaust Museum & Education Center of Southwest Florida look through the lens of history, we see hope and the chance for progress in the open discussion we can all have regarding the place in our society for bigotry, hatred, and violence. The Museum is a valuable, unique, fact-based reality check for over 20,000 visitors each year – the most important segment of that total being nearly 15,000 of our region’s schoolchildren.  We provide them with the crucial historical perspective they lack at this young age.

For over 15 years, our mission has been to teach the lessons of the Holocaust to inspire action against bigotry, hatred, and violence.  Using these lessons, students and the public are taught to think critically about the moral questions our society can face and the responsibility to take action in the face of injustice.  History shows that injustice can come from any angle and in many forms.  We are the only nonprofit in Southwest Florida with the mission and programs to provide the public and students with the ability to recognize and properly evaluate what is happening in our world, and challenge them to make a positive impact in their communities.

BUT WITHOUT YOU WE DON’T EXIST, leaving students and the public to interpret bigotry, hatred, and violence without the proper perspective of very important and relevant history.  It may always seem a brand-new world, but while the tools change, we humans love, hate, hurt, and heal the same as we always have.  We can create the best of times as well as the worst of times.  Your Museum helps create the best of times by planting and cultivating the seed of the importance of respect for others and the discovery and recognition of the parallels between the past and today.

PLEASE CONSIDER A YEAR-END DONATION TO IMPACT THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND ADULTS HERE IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA AND AROUND THE WORLD! If you’ve already donated, THANK YOU!
